| Air Quality Planning
Information from the Monitoring and Assessment Branch and the Permitting and Enforcement Branch is synthesized during the air quality planning process, in close cooperation with sister states and regional planning organizations, to determine whether the federal standards are adequately being met and maintained. In addition, the following planning activities occur to ensure the District complies with the Clean Air Act in future years:
Identification and implementation of strategies to mitigate air pollution - The District is continually working with industry and the public to develop new solutions to the pollution problem that balance concerns about cost and public health. Emission control measures can be regulatory, voluntary, or market-based. Controls are generally applied to technology, manufacturing processes, the use of products, or work practices.
Development of air quality improvement plans and regulations - Emission reductions from control measures that we plan to adopt are estimated and accounted for in State Implementation Plans (SIPs), which are legally binding documents. The District develops new regulations and revises existing regulations to implement SIP actions.
