New "Green DC" Portal Launched

Comprehensive Information on Environmental Initiatives and Services

Washington, DC - Mayor Adrian M. Fenty has launched the new "Green DC" online portal at green.dc.gov. The website tracks the environmental activities of more than 40 District Government agencies, area and national nonprofits, and local businesses.

"For the first time, we have a single resource for all of the fantastic green activities going on in the District of Columbia," said Mayor Fenty. "I want us to be a model city in conserving resources and reducing our ecological footprint. We're on our way, and this website shows exactly how."

The site has information on energy-efficient streetlights; the Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement; hazardous waste disposal, green roofs, rain barrels, household recycling tips and more. Updates will include the actions of the Mayor's Green Team, an inter-agency group tasked with shrinking the environmental impact of the District Government; and the Green Collar Jobs Council, which will recommend ways to create jobs for District residents in emerging environmental fields.
