DDOE Sponsors Anacostia River Environmental Education Fair for DC Students

(Washington, DC) The District Department of the Environment (DDOE) will sponsor the 11th annual Anacostia River Environmental Education Fair in Anacostia Park near the skating pavilion on Friday, May 11, 2007, from 9 am until 2:30 pm. Various exhibitors from Federal and District government agencies and non-profit organizations will be on hand to teach District students how to conserve the Anacostia River, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay. An awards ceremony will take place at 10 am to recognize individuals and organizations for their watershed education and conservation efforts. Corey Buffo, Interim Director of DDOE, will make remarks.

DDOE is proud to sponsor such an event designed to educate students and help them obtain a conservation and stewardship ethic toward the District's waterways. Each year, over 500 students attend the educational fair to have fun while learning. Educational river tours, wetlands and soils investigations, energy demonstrations, and a cultural exhibit on lands, rivers and people are among the highlights at this year's event.
