Energy Patrol 

Energy Patrollers have a very important role in their schools. They are responsible for finding wasted energy
and reporting it to the school’s Energy Patrol Sponsor.

This job helps to both cut down on your school’s energy bill and conserve energy for later use. Help your school and HAVE FUN!

Energy Patrollers are responsible for seeing that the school’s energy is not being wasted. They must use “Energy Eyes” and STOP energy waste in their schools by doing the following:

1. Turn off lights in unoccupied areas.
2. Check faucets for leaks.
3. Open shades or blinds during warm weather to use solar heat and close them at the end of the day to keep heat from escaping.
4. Identify broken or cracked windows.
5. Locate burned out/flickering light bulbs or fluorescent tubes.
6. Make sure windows are closed when heating or air conditioning is in use.

Energy Patrol Tips:

• Turn off lights in unused areas.
• Use only the amount of electric lighting needed.
• Take advantage of natural lighting, and use window blinds to allow natural light into the room.
• Keep doors and windows closed when using heat or air conditioning.
• Keep ventilation units clear for proper airflow. Remember, when the vents are blocked, the unit has to work harder to heat or cool.
• Turn off computers and other electrical devices when not in use.
• Develop an “Energy Eye” for spotting waste.
• Keep that “Energy Eye” open outside of school, and use it at home to save energy and save your parents money!
• Set a good example for other students.
